Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has revealed that the state government is seriously considering moving Bengaluru’s famous M Chinnaswamy Stadium to a new location after a tragic stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL 2025 victory celebrations that took 11 lives.

The chief minister was saddened by the tragedy, saying the incident has deeply affected him and the government is looking for long-term solutions to prevent such disasters in the future. One of the major steps being considered is shifting the stadium to a safer and more spacious area.

He also said that strict action has been taken over the deadly stampede in Bengaluru, as he confirmed the suspension of five police officers and top officials, including the intelligence chief. The CM also assured that the matter is being taken seriously.

The Karnataka Chief Minister further noted, “Five police officers have been suspended in this case. The intelligence chief and the chief minister’s political secretary have been replaced. The case has been taken seriously, and appropriate action has been taken.”

However, he stressed that the Karnataka government did not act irresponsibly in the tragic stampede incident outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, he admitted that the incident was heartbreaking, but mentioned there was no reason for them to feel embarrassed.

Siddaramaiah explained, “The government has not done anything wrong. This incident is saddening, but no misstep was taken by the administration. Legal action has been taken against those found guilty, so there is no question of embarrassment for the government.”

The chief minister hit back at political critics from the BJP and JDS, who are demanding accountability for the Bengaluru stampede. He slammed their double standards by asking why no one asked for the Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath’s resignation after deaths during the Kumbh Mela.

Siddaramaiah signed off by saying, “Did the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh resign when people died during the Kumbh Mela? Did the BJP and JDS demand his resignation then?”
