Can CSK land Sanju Samson for IPL 2026?
Meanwhile, if CSK really wants to bring him in, there are two ways. The five-time IPL champions would either have to trade for Samson with the Rajasthan Royals or buy him at the IPL 2026 mini-auction, but that can happen only if RR releases him from the squad.
Currently, Ruturaj Gaikwad is CSK’s captain, and any addition like Samson would add huge value to their batting unit. He started his IPL journey with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2012 and was part of their title-winning team, but he never got to play a match for them.

Sanju Samson’s IPL journey
In 2013, Rajasthan signed him, and he played for them until 2015. In 2016 and 2017, Samson played for the Delhi Daredevils (now the Delhi Capitals). But in 2018, RR brought the Kerala star back during the mega auction. The Royals then retained Samson ahead of both the 2022 and 2025 mega-auctions.
Samson took over RR’s captaincy in the 2021 season. He led the team to the IPL 2022 final, where they finished as runners-up. But since then, they have struggled in the tournament. Under Samson’s leadership, RR have won 33 and lost 32 matches in the world’s biggest T20 league.
He is currently RR’s top scorer in IPL history, having scored 4027 runs. He is the only RR player to cross 4000 runs in the tournament. Jos Buttler is the scorer with 3055 runs for the Royals. However, Samson had an unforgettable IPL 2025 season. He played only 9 matches this season due to injuries, scoring 285 runs at an average of over 35 and a strike rate of over 140.
